Love is an extraordinary thing that hits you all of a sudden. It was just like that for Joey and Lucio. June 26, 2015 was an amazing day for both of them when they heard the incredible news that the Supreme Court had legalized same-sex marriage in all the 50 states of United States of America.
It was the hottest day of the year, nearly about 100 degrees but Lucio and Joey wanted a chic, NYC rooftop wedding in the Lofts at Prince Street, SoHo, New York City.
Dressed in a navy blue suit with white polka dots from Paul Smith, Joey looked handsome and love-struck, even though he had to hem his pants in the last minute. Lucio wore a light gray suit from Ted Baker. Both of them got ready together, helping each other look their best on the most important day of their lives.
It was a small, intimate wedding with only 75 guests that included their family members, close friends, and relatives. Before the ceremony began, I made pictures of their family members and friends on the rooftop. Everyone was extremely happy about the union of Joey and Lucio, and enjoyed their time.
The ceremony started with Joey and Lucio arriving hand-in-hand. They legally solemnized their vows – and what a scene it was! I took the liberty to capture this emotional and beautiful moment of their union.
The sunset from the rooftop was fantastic, creating a stunning, romantic glow in the venue. I made some amazing portraits of the grooms with the sunset in the background.
Right after the ceremony, there was an incredible party reception that started with the grooms having their first dance as a married couple. There were beautiful, moving speeches by the mothers of the grooms. And it goes without saying, a beautiful white wedding cake which the grooms attempted to smash on each other’s face.
Surrounded by loved ones, Joey and Lucio had a memorable NYC rooftop wedding that they – and we – will remember for the rest of our lives. I’m glad that I could be a part of this intimate wedding.
