A Prince George Ballroom Wedding is an occasion set in one of the myriad of historical venues that are situated throughout New York City. The building was originally developed in 1904 and named the Prince George Hotel. The Prince George Hotel was an immaculate structure in the lively Madison Square neighborhood, with an interior that included a Ladies’ Tearoom, the English Tap Room, the Hunt Room, and a large lounge area that would in later years become the Prince George Ballroom. In the 1970s, the Prince George, along with a variety of other hotels, saw a decline in tourists and it fell into slight disrepair. With the lack of visitors gracing the hotel’s floors, its owners determined in the 1980s that the space could be used to house the rising number of homeless. During this time the hotel sheltered approximately 1600 homeless woman and children, though the act of charity further deteriorated the structure. In 1996 the hotel was acquired by Breaking Ground, a non-profit group that provides housing and outreach programs for those in need. With help, Breaking Ground eventually restored the hotel to its former grandeur, with modern touches added as the building was brought back to life. One of the highlights of this restoration was the ballroom, where Mark and Jamie held their Prince George Ballroom Wedding. 100% of net proceeds from events in the ballroom go toward Breaking Ground’s efforts to provide affordable homes for homeless and low income New Yorkers. That makes a wedding in this venue extra magical, with the bride and groom able to both celebrate their love and people doing good in the world. This vibrant image is symbolic of that and is an exuberant reminder to revel in the joys of life and to appreciate all the wonderful times that fill it.
